Ruby Spice Wine Spritz

A Grown Up Alcohol Free Drink That Still Feels Like Wine

Many women tell me they do not necessarily miss alcohol itself, but they miss the ritual of a glass of wine. The Ruby Spice Wine Spritz is designed exactly for that moment. It is a wine style, alcohol free drink that feels familiar, celebratory and satisfying, without the sleep disruption, sugar spike or next day fatigue.

This drink is based on classic wine spritzer and mulled wine flavour profiles, so it genuinely tastes good. It is lightly spiced, refreshing and very drinkable, making it a great option for social occasions or quiet evenings when you want something grown up in your glass.

Why choose an alcohol free wine based drink?

As women move through their 40s and beyond, alcohol can have a much stronger effect on sleep, mood, anxiety and weight. Alcohol free wine allows you to enjoy familiar flavours and social rituals while supporting better energy, hormone balance and recovery.

Diluting alcohol free wine with sparkling water also lowers sugar intake and makes the drink easier to digest.

Ingredients

  • 120 ml alcohol free red wine, dry style and low sugar if possible

  • 60 ml sparkling water

  • 1 thin slice of orange

  • 1 small cinnamon stick

  • 2 cloves

  • Ice cubes, optional

How to make it

Add the alcohol free red wine to a glass.
Add the orange slice, cinnamon stick and cloves.
Allow the flavours to infuse for one to two minutes.
Add ice if serving cold.
Top with sparkling water and gently stir.

Optional warm version

For a warmer drink, gently heat the alcohol free wine with the orange slice, cinnamon and cloves. Do not boil. Pour into a heat safe glass and top with a splash of hot water instead of sparkling water.

Why this supports women’s health

Alcohol free red wine provides depth, tannins and flavour without the alcohol that can disrupt sleep and hormone balance.
Spices such as cinnamon and cloves add warmth and aroma and may support digestion and steadier blood sugar.
Using sparkling water to dilute the wine reduces overall sugar intake while keeping the drink light and refreshing.

This combination creates a drink that feels indulgent and social but works with your body rather than against it.

A realistic approach to feeling good again

In my clinical work, I see that women do best with realistic swaps rather than extremes. Choosing supportive drinks is one small change that can make a noticeable difference to energy, sleep and mood.

If you want more simple, realistic ways to feel good again, my book Have a Magnificent Menopause: A Straightforward Guide to Looking Good and Feeling Great explores how nutrition, lifestyle and daily habits can support women through perimenopause and menopause in a way that fits real life.

And if you are ready for a deeper reset, my 21 Day Body Reboot starts on 12th January. This programme is designed to help restore energy, calm cravings, support hormones and create habits that last beyond the festive season.

Sometimes it is not about doing more, but about making smarter, kinder choices.
