Menopause, Nutrition and Healthy Ageing: My Conversation on Thriving After 40

I recently had the pleasure of joining Barbara Karafokas on her podcast, Thriving After 40: Holistic Health with Barbara, to discuss some of the most common health challenges people face as they move through midlife and beyond.

As a Nutritional Therapist and Aesthetician specialising in women's health, I spend my days helping clients improve their energy, manage weight changes, support hormonal health and feel more confident in themselves. It was wonderful to share some of these insights with Barbara and her audience.

What We Discussed

During the episode, we explored a range of topics including:

  • Understanding the changes that occur during perimenopause and menopause

  • Why energy levels often decline during midlife

  • The connection between nutrition, hormones and overall wellbeing

  • Simple lifestyle habits that can support healthy ageing

  • Managing stress and supporting mental wellbeing

  • Practical ways to improve health without feeling overwhelmed

One of the key messages from our conversation was that getting older does not mean accepting poor health, low energy or feeling unlike yourself. While hormonal changes can create challenges, there are many evidence based nutrition and lifestyle strategies that can help you feel stronger, healthier and more vibrant.

Why Nutrition Matters During Menopause

Many women are surprised to learn how much their daily food choices can influence symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, mood changes, poor sleep and reduced concentration.

Prioritising protein, eating plenty of colourful vegetables, supporting gut health, managing blood sugar levels and staying hydrated can all play an important role in supporting hormonal balance and healthy ageing.

The good news is that even small changes can often have a significant impact over time.
